render for dvd
Posted by Tom Davicory on April 25, 2009 at 2:26 amwhen making a dvd with dvd architect out of a sony vegas project, what is the best format to render to? Should I render to .avi and then put that in the dvd architect project which will then compress it for the dvd, or is there some other format that I can use (past experiences with .avi strait to the dvd project have produced dvd’s of mediocre quality).
thanks

April 25, 2009 at 2:46 amThis question has been asked dozens of times and its almost always the same answer. Render as MPEG2 out of Vegas (Use Mainconcept DVDA MPEG 2 video stream. Set the bit rate according to how much data you have to render. The default values are a little skewed. Then render an AC3 audio stream. Then take both those files into DVDA. They wil;l not be rerendered and you will have the best possible quality.

April 25, 2009 at 2:54 pmI clicked on render, set the properties as:
save as type- MainConcept MPEG-2template- DVD architect NTSC Widescreen video stream
when I clicked “save” a window came up that said “Support for the selected file format has expired for this program”
would you know how I can fix this?

April 25, 2009 at 3:53 pmThat message sounds like you’re running a trial version of the program and it’s expired.
Is that the case? -

April 25, 2009 at 7:23 pmthe program definitely works, and rendering works for everything else. I have had it for about three months, however I do admit that I bought it for a really cheap price from a sort of sketchy website.

I didn’t want to ask if it was a legit copy or not.
This reinforces my suspicions that it isn’t as MPEG-2 encoding issues are a known problem with this kind of software.
The only solution is to make sure your copy is legit by buying from a reputable source.
B&H has a good deal (under $100 I think) on Vegas 8 Pro that you might want to check out.
Make sure it comes with DVD Architect as their website is a bit confusing on this. -

April 25, 2009 at 8:53 pmYou can try it but, as I said, there’s no guarantee that it’ll work.

April 25, 2009 at 9:35 pmI know that it works to render, what I mean is; will this work for a dvd (as in will it give me good quality, etc).

April 25, 2009 at 10:11 pmA lot of folks burn DVDs using the default templates and are quite happy with the results.
All I can suggest is to try it and see what you think.
