Hello. I understand that FCP projects can not be shared in an Xsan or other SAN environ, at least not simultaneously. In an XSAN environment with users working in turn on the same project file do issues arise? Do any permission challenges arise? I have heard talk of the render files needing to live locally. Is this true?

Render files have been stored on our XSan for quite some time with no problems. Only issue is the buildup of file space, but that can be remedied by visiting the Render manager or by visiting the Render file. As far as working on 1 project with multiple users/machines, I do not think FCP is capable of running that way. The most stable and proper way I’ve heard is to open, work, close, send.
But it seems there is something out there, either a program or perhaps a completely different program alltogether, that does allow multiple connections. —of course, I’ve been keeping eyes on various other programs and may be getting slightly confused….as happens on occasion….

Thanks Tim. Are you running FCP v5.0.2 on Panther?
