I have been having major problems with loosing Render files in FCP 7.
We’re working on Apple ProRes 422 timelines, 8bit. It seems that when we render out a project, close it and re-open it, on occasion we have to re-render everything and when we try to reconnect the render files they are no longer there.

We deliver a 1/2 hour show to 3 networks and this is a major time consuming issue that randomly occurs.

I have searched this forum and haven’t found any ideas other than to trash the prefs.

    Please help!!!

Do the clips have SmoothCam on them by chance?

I believe u may have used smooth cam once on a clip but usually export the clip afterwards and make it self contained.

I see this all of the time. It started with FCP 6 and has carried over into FCP 7. Sometimes, its all the render files, but most of the time, it’s only a few render files that got lost. But it happens about 90% of the time for us, too.

I’ve been unable to narrow it down to a codec since we use ProRes422, DVCProHD and XDCAM HD – all 1080i29.97.

Yup I’m running FCP 7.02 and losing render files all the time for no reason in Pro Res LT timeline.

Somebody suggested making all clips match sequence settings but isn\’t that what Pro Res is all about?

I haven’t lost hours I have lost days.

Nobody ever said “I must go and see that movie I hear it came in under budget.”

Wayne, how many formats do you have?

I try to edit on one codec only. But those codecs are the ones we use primarily. Its not codec specific problem because it happens in any codec that we work with, like DVCProHD ( our codec of choice because of speed ).
