Have had a problem over the past couple of days with FCP7 taking quite a long time to open. Went and had a quick look in the FCP package contents and found a Render folder in the MacOS folder. Removed it and this has solved the problem immediately. The files are from many months back, but I always use an external raid for everything. This is not the first time that I’ve found render files in FCP package. Has anyone else come across this?

I hate to say it Martin, but it’s got to be pilot error of some sort, most likely when restarting after a crash. Preferences are automatically trashed when the machine crashes, and if you don’t reset the disk drives properly in system settings renders will go to directories FCP creates on the system drive.

This was/is an old problem that seemed to show up sometime in FCP6.

I haven’t seen it in quite some time and never understood what caused it.

I wrote about it way back in ought seven (2007) here on the cow.
