Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Render errors?

    Hi guys,
I have asked this before over the past year and no one seems to know, but here we go again. I have also put this on the AJA IO forum.

Once i have colour corrected, arced and rendered an 8bit PAL online project, i get what i can only describe as render errors. They appear as horizontal lines, a pixel or two high, covering perhaps a third of the screen. They seem to be part of the picture displaced right or left but an inch or so.

Now the weird thing is they dont appear in FCP unless I playout to digibeta, and they are generally on the second field, hence why you cant see them in the timeline (although sporadically they do appear). When playing out a film three times, they also sometimes appear in one playout and not the other!!

I have had this 2ghz G5, 3mb RAM, FCP4.5 for a year now and have upgraded firmware, updated the OS every now and then and it is always the same. I trash preferences at least once a week, create new ones, either way it makes no difference. I dont beleive it is the AJA because they do appear on the timeline every now and then, so surely it must be FCP?

If anyone has had the same problem please let me know, and if you have found anything to stop it. Or if anyone has any helpful tips!!

    Thanks
    NIck

I’ve seen similar things, and have fixed them by re editing the shots that exibit the behavior. (even using the same media as odd as that sounds)… seems rebuilding the sequence a bit helps. Doesn’t happen often at all, but sure saw a bad playback get fixed this way just last week here.

    Nick,

Do not discount the AJA. I would look into this because the way it works is FCP hands everyting to QT and then that goes to the AJA and back to FCP. In other words, once you plug in the AJA it is responsible for displaying canvas viewer and external monitor because of how the signal has to be routed. It’s not that FCP takes care of teh canvas and viewer and teh AJA does the rest.

This may be hardware related. I know you can’t play out the sequences without the AJA but you may be able to disconnect it the next time you see it and see if it goes away.

Also, this could be an FCP & PAL & QT thing, I know that there are field insertion issues in PAL when dealing with a 25 to 24 pulldown for film so it could be a bug in that workflow.

    Thanks david and jerry,
Certainly when i re-render the seconds surrounding the error it disappears, but the info about how the AJA handles the footage is interesting. Although it does seem that it is purely a render mistake so could the AJA alter how a file is rendered (or created while redering)
