You don’t list anything about your system on your profile, but..
A BSOD is Windows way of of saying “WTF?”.
Vegas isn’t crashing, Windows is.

Windows will crash with a BSOD when it tries to address bad RAM, or tries to write data into a ROM address space. BSOD is actually quite rare now because Windows can usually isolate any error and close the program that was running when Windows crashed and present the equally frustrating “Windows has Encountered a Problem”.

But at least Windows keeps running. You should note, Windows protects itself above any running application.

So, without knowing anything about your PC and what you’re trying to edit, no one can help you here.

I am interested in this thread, though, because I haven’t seen a BSOD in at least two or three years.

I tried the https://www.ntcore.com/exsuite.php to allow vegas.exe to use more than 2G which apparently helped other users with rendering crashes, but it made no difference to my problem.

If you kept a backup copy of Vegas I would restore it. Otherwise I would completely uninstall and re-install Vegas Pro and not mess with anything you shouldn’t be messing with.

it’s doing it with the older and newer versions..
My pc is running XP Pro version 2002, SP3, and is a Intel Core Quad CPU, 2.83GHZ it says 2.5G ram but I’m sure it’s 4G.. so that should be a good enough spec surely?
I mostly use the computer for audio recording. It has a RME HDSP9652 soundcard and a UAD quad card too.. but that wouldn’t throw it would it?
Also, I just gave it the windows update..

I’ve just tried rendering some old footage and it seems to work there, but on certain newer projects it just jumps to the blue screen..

What does the blue screen say? There will be an error on the top and usually a filename on the bottom of the driver that caused the error. You need to look these up and see what the error means. Then get an updated driver for the driver that is causing the problem.

Also,did anything change in the hardware configuration lately? These days, BSOD often are indicative of a hardware driver or component failure. Did you add/remove hardware lately? Upgrade drivers???

What’s your format that you are rendering? HD? SD? which manufacturer, like HD AVCHD,HD AVCHD lite, HD MOV, etc…. Some odd stuff is manufacturer specific, it seems.

I haven’t checked the blue screen bit yet, does it damage the computer when it does that?

I haven’t changed any of the hardware recently and it seems weird that it only does it on certain projects.. the ones I really want to keep hmnf.

Anyway, it didn’t work, as I’ve just got more blue screen.

Excellent! So your next task is to Google for “STOP: 0X0000008E” and read what Microsoft and others have to say about what causes this. There are a lot of cause including malware and rootkits. You need to see which one might apply to your circumstances.

Then you need to Google “aec.sys” to find out what file it is. You will find that it’s a Windows system file so perhaps there is a system update from Microsoft that will fix this?

I would start scanning your computer for malware, tojans, rootkits, etc with programs like AddAware, SpyBot, and MalWareBytes, just to rule those out as a possibility.
