Render As window not displaying completely Vegas 11
Hi,
I’ve just upgraded to Sony Vegas 11 after using Vegas 8 for the last number of years. I added an mpg file to the timeline and then went to File/Render As. The Render As window then opens but only the frame of the window. So I don’t get any Save, Cancel, Custom or About buttons. I don’t get the file explorer window. I don’t get the File Name, Save as Type or Template Boxes. All I get is a frame with the title “Render As”, a question mark icon and an X icon.
Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone have any ideas on how I might sort this issue?Thanks for taking the time to read.

Have you tried dragging down the window (extending it)?

It’s odd that only a partial window would be displayed. Check that you have the latest graphics drivers for your graphics card.

There have been previous posts reporting similar issues relating to a corrupt Windows font, although I don’t know which one.
Does it happen if you simply restart Vegas?
If you have changed the default font size of Windows fonts, you could try to defaulting them to see if that remedies your issue.
Lastly you could also try to default Vegas’ settings by holding down CTRL-SHIFT as you start it.

Just for anyone who might have the same issue. I finally worked out what the problem was today. I have a USB dual monitor device so that I can use two monitors. If I turn it off, the render as window displays perfectly. Unlikely that anyone else will have the exact same issue but just putting this in just in case 🙂

Wow, that is odd. I didn’t even know they made a USB monitor device. Thanks for getting back to us. It all adds to the knowledge base.

Just to add more confusion, I have a USB video adapter (WS-Tech USB-DVI) which I run off my laptop that had no issues with dialog boxes. I am however now using the driver that shipped with the device.
When I applied the latest driver, my system would blue screen in Vegas. My system never blue screened until then. It did it several times.
I think it uses the bottom end ATI video driver so I was able to enable GPU acceleration. The system blue screened whether I enabled or disabled GPU acceleration. Once I rolled the driver back, my system was stable, but I could not use GPU acceleration as the driver version is too old.

I had a similar issue with Vegas MS 11.0.322 on a 32-bit install of Windows 8. Actually, both the Render As window and the Welcome/Tips window at startup were both black and caused my dual monitor setup to flicker.
It got fixed when I went into the Preferences window (which seemed to show properly) and deselected the “Use Vegas colors” (or something like that) setting, pressed OK. The black windows still were black, so I restarted Vegas, and then both the Welcome window and the Render As window now show their contents.
I had initially tried turning off the dual monitor setup (going to one monitor), but that did not solve the black window problem. I tried this because of the flickering that was happening and had seen such stuff in older dual monitor setups with video editing in the past.
Now it seems to be working. I haven’t tried a render or a DVD/burn project yet on this system, so there may still be more adventures.
