  • Render As versus Project settings…

I’m unclear about something. When you first open Vegas (6.0 in my case) you’re asked for project settings, and you select your template–HDV etc.

Then after you’ve made your video, you go to file and select “Render as” and are again asked for what we want the project to be. If we don’t decide until the end, what our project will be (DVDA Widescreen etc) what’s the point of choosing project setting templates in the beginning?

Vegas optimizes itself for the editing process. Usually, editing is performed in one format, but output may be several formats. Therefore, you optimize the app for the editing process.

Sorry Spot, I don’t follow. Vegas is supposed to be an open timeline, why do we need a project setting template if our medium of delivery doesn’t have to be decided until the end of the editing process? What do we lose or gain by originating in the template that is most akin to the medium of final render?

Here’s a few examples of why you do it.
If I’m working on a widescreen project, I certainly don’t want my preview showing me a regular width display.
How would I know if my titles were in the right place?
If I was using stills in the project, how would I know where to crop them if I had to?
If you shot HDV but wanted to render it as SD, how would you know how it’s going to look unless you set your project properties up in the first place?
