  • Render an image sequence but skipping frames that are blank

Posted by Ian Northrop on September 9, 2011 at 5:15 pm

    short form:

Is there a way to render out an image sequence where After Effects is smart enough to know not to render frames that don’t have a video layer present?

    further explained:

I have multiple clips along my timeline (I am doing a conform) and would like to render one, very long dpx sequence of the entire timeline, but I have a dilemma – I have many gaps in my timeline between clips (on purpose) and I’d like to avoid needing to render each clip individually. Is there a way to render out an image sequence where After Effects is smart enough to know not to render frames that don’t have a video layer present?

    Thank you

Check out Chris Green’s Queue_Comp_Sections script [link].

It allows you to manually specify render ranges with specially-named guide layers — so it’s sort of like having multiple working areas in the same comp.

Personally, I find many of his scripts to be indispensable. If you find them useful, too, please consider supporting his scripting efforts by sending him a payment through his donate button.
