Render a Clip NOT The Whole Timeline
Posted by Javier Abad on February 21, 2008 at 7:24 amhello there
I am working with final cut, I am really newbie and I have a little problem/
Each time I edit some clip, I need to render the whole thing. Is there not a way to edit and preview the result without render it? How can I find a good work flow?thanks a lot

By ‘edit’ do you mean ‘mark an in and out and put in the timeline’, or do you mean ‘apply filter or motion’?
If it’s the former, you should not need to render the clip unless the sequence settings are not the same as the clip. Check your capture settings and sequence settings.
If the render is needed because of a filter or re-sizing, sometimes a render will be required, depending on your system specs, codec used and realtime setup. With RT on, and the framerate and resolution set to ‘dynamic’ in the timeline, you can achieve a lot of realtime previews depending on the above.
This is a pretty big question – you can find a lot of the answers in the manual (it’s pretty good) and you may also find the ‘basics’ forum on the Cow helps.

September 3, 2010 at 11:39 pmwell it’s not working like in premiere pro with the “work area”,
for ex. in PREMIERE PRO you can render between the work area bars, but here in FCP I copy that piece what i need to render in another timeline and render there, after i finsh the job recopy in the original timeline, is not that practical like in premiere but at my level this is how it works 🙂
