I am editing with the latest FCP software, on the newest Mac Pro! I have already done a few projects without any problems. Today for some reason I am having an issue with my video. When I drop a clip into the timeline, and in this case a very large clip, I have to render the entire timeline before I can begin. Also, once I render the entire timeline if I do anything…even as simple as a cut…the entire timeline must be rendered again. Any help on why this is happening would be very much appreciated. This is taking alot of time for unnecessary rendering?!?!?!

    THANKS!

what codec is the footage you dropped in?

it has to match to playback in realtime.

not all codecs play in real time. if it’s the “ANIMATION or PNG or NONE”
codec it will never play in real time without rendering.

if it’s a DV codec then load the DV preset for your timeline.
