OK, I know there’s been other threads about this but it seems like this is a new problem in mc v4.0.5.

Material was shot on film and put on tape. I don’t have a tapemachine so they made quicktimes wih timecode out of it and I imported the material.
    Edited.

Want to make an edl but the source refers to ax.(because it’s an imported quicktime)
So I try to change the tapename. In all possible ways. Modifying clip looks like it’s working but then nothing happens. Just typing in the bin window opens the little window where you can type but you can not type.
    Tried unlinking too, no succes.
Meanwhile post ppl are pushing for a correct edl.

    Anyone suggestions?

    I hope so….

    Hi Martin,
not sure if I`m right, but can you really change Tape names with imported files? I thought this would just be possible with digitized clips. You might try to export an ALE file from your bin and then change it using an text editor. I’m not sure and not in front of an Avid right now. Maybe this works.

HI Hans, thanks for your response.

I actually have done it before in the past. So I’m sure it was possible.
I’m goint to try the ale thing right now.
    Thanks!

Have you tried “modify” and Tape? from the selected clip(s)?

    Hi Martin,
hope my guess solves the problem. Tomorrow when I´m back at my avid I`ll give it a check. When I know more I’ll let you know.

Hi all, thanks for all of your help.
It’s getting weirder by the minute, I just tried importing some other quicktimes and they were easy as always to modify. Just modify source and voila. The ones I imported earlier still can’t.
The only difference in the quicktimes I can’t modify is they were made with a blackmagic card.

In the end I just edited the edl in text edit but I would still very much like to know why mc is still not letting me adjust the source name in the bin of those blackmagic quicktimes.

any more help is greatly appreciated.

No idea why those files are different, but next time, use MetaCheater or QTchange (from my site) to make an ALE, import the ALE, then batch import the files.
You then have TC and Reel info, no need to modify.

Ok, all stories have an ending..
All of a sudden I remembered that during preparation, the application crashed just after importing the last quicktime. When I restarted the application the quicktimes were gone. (at least in the bin they were.) So, not willing to wait for more then an hour again while importing quicktimes, i opened the mediatool and found them there. I just dragged them to my rushes bin and I could start the edit. I felt clever.
    There was my mistake.

These quicktimes had gotten, in hidden way, corrupted by the crash. They couldn’t be modified because of that. When I imported them again (and that means importing them as new clips and not batch-importing the old ones) they could be modified just fine.

So I recut my old edit with the new imported quicktimes and I was troublefree finally.

thanks for all of your help.

    Martin
