For the purpose of easily editing AVCHD project in Premiere CS5 with a 4600+ dual core processor , which features a sever lack of fluidity when working with native Sony *.mts footages, I am using the following method:
1- convert the native .mts files into .mpg files using Adobe Media Encoder
2- import the mpg files into an AVCHD Premiere CS5 project window
3- edit the project using the mpg files, including effects and transitions
4- replace the *.mpg files with the corresponding *.m2ts files using the “Replace the footage” command (right-click on each footage in the Project window)
5- Render the timeline and export it as an AVCHD/HDTV 1920 x 1080 p movie.
Since the above step 5 is boring and tedious, particularly because the AVCHD tapeless technology generates a high number of footages, I would like to find a method or a software to automatically carry out this operation on a batch basis.

After some researh I found that the Premiere project file (*.pproj) can be opened in a text processor (wordpad for instance works fine). The “seach/replace” command enables to batch replace the *.mpg in the Project window into the corresponding *.m2ts. When I reopen the project in Premiere, the mpg sequences are automaticaly changed into *.m2ts. All the transitions and effects remain unchanged.
