    Hello,

I am trying to reduce the sound of wind and rustling palm leaves on an interview. I have been told that I should be able to eliminate these sounds (or at least reduce them) from my stereo audio track, but I have had trouble discovering how to do so with the Premiere Pro help feature. Could you please advise as to how I can do this?

    Thanks,

    Nathan

You’ll probably have to look at audition for anything more involved, and even that may not do you much good; either way it will be a very long process.

In Premiere, apply the EQ, or Parametric EQ effect, and reduce the gain on the frequencies the wind is hitting. A noise remover won’t be much help here since it is probably a random noise.

If you have audition, you can try using the noise remover effect, isolating the noise first.

    Cheers,

    Vince

The only real way of removing the wind noise is to filter it out. Most wind noise is low frequency rumble and a higher frequency component, which is often around the same range as vocals. This is the reason professional mics (shotguns) used for vocal recordings are very directional and held in a shock absorbing mount with a wind shield. Most wind shields that touch the mic itself are a waste of time.

You could use the parametric equaliser in PPro and adjust the filter response to eliminate as much of the noise at both ends of the scale as you can.
