Hi everyone, so contrary to the last post on this forum that wanted to add jpeg artifacts, I am looking for ways to remove them! I have a bunch of old photographs that have artifacting on it, and I am looking to fix them up. I used the trial on Lets enhances upscaler which did a pretty good job, but before I go further with that it got me wondering about photoshops capabilities in removing jpeg artifacts. I am pretty good with the program, but by no means an expert, so could anyone give me some pointers, or if there are other options for removing artifacts. Any input if much appreciated, thanks!

Go to Filter -> Neural Filters and then go to where it says “JPEG Artefacts removal. If its not yet downloaded, go ahead and download it. Its a pretty quick process. Then check the Strength settings for this. Highly recommend it to always set it to high 🙂

Here is the source where I learned to do it recently myself for visual context: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcWR6B5_W88

    Hope it helps!

One tool is the Reduce Noise filter. This filter can reduce noise in an image, including JPEG artifacts. To use the Reduce Noise filter, follow these steps:

    Open the image in Photoshop.

Go to Filter > Noise > Reduce Noise.

Set the Strength slider in the Reduce Noise dialog box to a moderate setting.

Check the Remove JPEG Artifacts checkbox.

    Click OK.

Hello Anni! Could you give us an example? I usually use the Clone tool to carefully blot out most unwanted objects such as lines, replacing them with the correct nearby colors, then perhaps smoothing things over with the Blur tool. But it would be helpful to see what you are working with since each situation requires its own “finesse”.
