    Hi,

I am editing a training video regarding firefighting. I quite new to AE. What I need to do in this video is remove a rope that is attached to the fireman as he is scaling a building. My first thought was to clone it out. When I started doing this, I noticed that as the frames proceeded and I continued cloning, I was getting “multiple” clones as the frames progressed. My initial question is, was cloning the right approach? If so, how do I prevent the multiple clones? If not, what approach should I take? Any help on this would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Rickpgh

this depends on a lot of things, mostly, does your shot move?

generally the process involves creating a ‘clean plate’ – so make a clean frame without the fireman in it at all. just the building. put this layer under your original shot, then either paint the rope out using the clean plate as a source – or simply use a mask with feather to eliminate the rope, seeing through to your clean plate.
