    Hi,

I recently purchased a Sony HDR AX-2000 HD video camera and took it out for a night shoot.
This being my first HD prosumer level camera,I have had little previous knowledge when it comes to shooting video in high quality.

My settings for the following video clip were:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9fwtAQoOQM

    Filmed in 1080/60i
    Manual settings:
    – 0 gain
    – 30 shutter speed
    – iris at f1.6
    – no zoom

I was trying to get as much light as possible for the shot without using gain and to have the shutter speed at a setting just enough for the motion to appear smooth.

I intended on using Sony Vegas Movie Studio 10 for the editing and conversion of the format to 1080/30P in order to share it on Youtube (which I did).

When I returned home to check the footage, I found out that there is an annoying flicker throughout the footage I’ve filmed.

I have yet to find a de-flicker plug-in or any sort of solution to get rid or drastically reduce the flicker. Other de-flicker plugins didn’t really help. Virtualdub MSU deflicker plugin doesn’t work well with AVCHD *.MTS files (the quality wasn’t nearly as good in Avi format and much larger in file size) and The Foundry Tinderbox’s FurnaceCore de-flicker plug-in costs an arm and a leg.

Unfortunately, a re-shoot isn’t possible at this time and even if it was, I don’t know which settings would help reduce/eliminate flicker in the future.

Any helpful suggestions would be great.

    Thanks!

In the future, if you’re shooting 60i, don’t drop your shutter speed below 60 unless the shot is locked off and there is very little motion.

Is there flicker in the source on the timeline or just in the render?Since you are delivering 30p, set your project to 30p and your Deinterlace method to Interpolate fields and see if that makes a difference.

The flicker is in the source timeline as well. The sodium lamps on location didn’t help with that.

60 shutter speed, I’ll remember that.

I’ll try 30p and the de-interlace method and let you know if it works.

    Thanks John!
