Removing Black Frames?
Hi all-
Set up Avid for the first time a few days ago and have a question:
I need to remove 7 frames of black from footage ingested into Avid from a DVD without throwing the audio off by 7 frames. Is there any way I can do this? Can I stretch the clips around the black frames to fill in the space?
The footage is a journalistic news package that was initially edited on a tape-to-tape machine. When I noticed those black frames, I brought the footage into Avid in order to (hopefully) fix those black frames and make things look better.
Any thoughts?

So you can’t cut the audio track as well?
Is it a transition (meaning does it cut to another shot after the 7 frames of black)?

Unfortunately, I can’t cut the audio- the 7 frames of black have some speech over them that I can’t cut out.
There is a transition to another shot after those 7 frames – does that give you any ideas?
For now, I made a 7-frame long freeze frame of the last good video frame that I have, and replaced the 7 frames of black with that freeze frame. It’s certainly not perfect by any means, but is far better than having the video drop to black in the middle of the package.
Thoughts?

You could take the shot just previous to the 7 frames of black, slow mo say, 90% (not really enough to notice, but enough to give you an extra 7 frames…), then overwrite the last shot with the slo-mo’d shot.
