Removing Background people In AE
I’m trying to edit some footage where there are unwanted people in the background.
Ive had some success with the clone stamp tool going frame by frame to paint over them but figured that I would see if anyone had some better techniques I might use.
The painting approach is working great for some situations but other backgrounds are troublesome and have a lot of varying details. (like the guy on the right in the pics below)
I did actually try to take a screen grab and motion track it ontop but unfortunately I couldn’t get a steady enough track inside of AE. I tried PFTrack but I also couldn’t figure out the proper approach to exporting just a straight up mull object or something I could parent my still image too (Im really new at PFTrack)

You can remove the sign too, right? Maybe use levels to bring down the shadows there until they’re black, then use a black solid to mask out the guy and the sign?
BTW, I’m in the camp that doesn’t like frame-by-frame painting due to the chatter. I like to dupe the layer, mask around part of it, and drag that part over to hide another part, and animate the mask.

I agree with the cause of chatter that painting causes. I just need to stick a solid track.

You may want to take a look at this tutorial I did some time ago (Simple Object Removal) but it all really depends on the footage, and since you only posted stills I can’t really tell if it will work for you. I think that it should, maybe you’ll need to do some extra masking, but the general approach of removing is ok.
Try it out.
