Remove the white background from logos and images
Posted by Carpediem on May 28, 2005 at 5:47 pmHi,
I’m using Adobe Premiere Pro and I’m creating a video with the sponsors of a conference that I am hosting. I am getting the logos from http://www.brandsoftheworld.com
Now, all the logos are in EPS format but when imported into Premiere they all have a white background.
I’m trying to make the logo’s fade in and out on top of a moving background that gradually changes color. Hence, the logos look “ugly” when they’re surrounded by a white boxed background.
How do I get rid of it
Thanks a million,

May 28, 2005 at 7:17 pmI suggest removing the white background in Photoshop. You can select the white area and just delete it once you copy the background layer and then delete the original layer.

May 29, 2005 at 3:07 amSteven, I’ve been given logo’s that were layered, with white, and it was a breeze to turn a layer off. But what if there are not layers in the logo?
While I am pretty good a fixing photos in photoshop, I’ll be the first to admit my skills at Photoshop are not advanced (haven’t had the time to learn or need). I’ve had a non-layered logos with a white boundary outside the logo, that I had to remove. I used the erasure tool to remove the white, leaving a transparent background.
Is there a better work flow for non layered?

May 29, 2005 at 3:40 amNo need to erase. Just select the color with the magic wand tool, and then hit the delete key. But to do that, it can not be the background, as I understand it. So you copy the background to a new layer and then delete the background.

Actually it’s even easier than that.
Simply double click on the background layer in the layer palette and the dialogue will pop up with the designation as “Layer 0″… hit “OK” and wa-la, it’s no longer the background and you can create an alpha channel where you delete the background color.

May 29, 2005 at 4:11 pmI didn’t know if this would work, so went to their site and grabbed a logo.
Put it over some video and applied color key, then picked up the White. I set the tolerance to 255 (this was just a black and white logo, maybe that won’t work with a color one?) I left the edge thin at 0 and set the edge feather to 1.5. It gave it a slightly opague/blurred outline.
Just a thought.

February 23, 2011 at 9:29 amDraw Clipping path using photoshop pen tool is the nice technique to remove white background from logo or images. Using clipping path unwanted object can perfectly remove from any images.

January 25, 2017 at 10:03 pmI know this post was back in 2005 but here in the future 2017 I still found this thread. So for anyone else using Adobe Premiere Pro CC to remove the white background use the blend mode Multiply in your clips opacity settings, hope this help the Adobe CC users.
