Remote grading on Resolve
For those of you wondering how the remote grading work, it’s pretty simple actually. Tested this today on two Resolves – one Mac and one Linux and they are both on the SAN. We conformed the project on the Resolve Mac and then exported it out and imported into the Resolve Linux. Once both sessions are opened, on the Resolve Mac, you do a CMD+G and then a window pops up asking to enter the IP address of the Resolve Linux. Enter that and on the Resolve Linux it’ll ask if you want to accept the session. Once you accept it, leave the Resolve Mac alone and while the Resolve Linux is doing all the grading, you can see the results on the Resolve Mac. That’s it…pretty darn simple 🙂
Now if the two Resolves are in two different locations, then you just need to ensure that the same media files are online locally as the remote grading just simple sends the metadata information and media playback it from the respective machine’s local storage. And of course both machine must be networked together on the same IP subnet.
And we also setup a Database Server so that both the Resolve Mac and Linux can centrally store the projects. This is great coz the Resolve Mac can be a prep station to conform the project and perhaps do a base grade and then hand over the project to the hero suite with a souped up Resolve Linux. You can’t open the project at the same time as the machine that opens the project will lock it from other machine from opening it.
Really really cool stuffs happening here 🙂
