  • Relinking video with audio already on the timeline

I have audio on my timeline from interviews. In the process of editing, the video with that audio was removed and deleted off the timeline. Each interview is it’s own clip in my bin. Is there a shortcut way to re-sync my video (the particular part I need) to the audio on the timeline without listening to the clip then the timeline then the clip again then the timeline again then inserting only the video and playing a game of sliding to get it to line up correctly? I know Avid shows me that the video will be out of sync with it’s own audio and by how far. But I’m curious if there is a shortcut using timecode or something.

If the video clip was simply deleted, why not see if you can restore an earlier sequence from the attic?

Barring that, you can jump to the head of each audio clip, mark in-out, matchframe to the source window and lay just the video back into the timeline.

I actually just realized that I can add the source timecode for A1, which is where my audio clip is, to my timecode window. I place the playhead at the beginning of the audio clip I want to add my video back too and it’s the exact point I need to go to in the clip that’s in the source monitor to re-sync it.

You might be too far along for this to still be of use, but next time, you shouldn’t bother with timecode. In your sequence, do an add edit on your (empty) V1 track at each audio edit (you can use fast forward keys, or control click near each audio edit, to go straight to each one). Then do match frame on your sequence audio track to bring the master clip into the source window, then do a replace edit to V1 of your sequence. Repeat all the way down the sequence.
