    Hi Guys,

I just switched from my raid system to a fibre channel server and Im looking for a way to relink the footage on the timeline (browser) from the old raid to the new server. The files are on both and have of course the same names…I only need a way to tell davinci to look there for them instead of the old place.

    Any ideas?
    thanks as always!!

Sure, the manual, page 103 :

    Change Parent Directory
When the location of the source clips has changed, use the ‘Change Parent Directory’ option to relink to the new clip location. This will automatically search for the new parent location of the clips that have been placed into the Media Pool. Highlight one or more clips within the Media Pool and right click to select ‘Change Parent Directory of Clips.’ A window will display the original path for the material and let you enter or browse to the new path. Select the Change button to start the relink. If there is no match found, no change will occur.

in both fields you want the parent path, no file names or sub folders, but the directory up to the point where it is identically.
Works very well if you really have the same structure.

    Thanks Sascha,

But thats what I already tried and didnt work so far…I just selected all of them in the media pool and changed the parent directory, I told it where to look for them but i still cant see anything in the color tab…all the files are “black” or empty…

    Any other idea?

You are in the right place, but doing it wrong.
I know its tricky and unforgiving and in my world I would just have a file find function but well, this is what we have today.
Normally the problem occurs when you select stull that has two different source path names.
    try it one file first
    then try another.
    then try to combine them

I bet it will work 🙂

PS. if you changed it to black, you are scr…, close the project and redo it from scratch

ok perfect, now it worked. It had problems of the server only showing as a server and not the exact folder name.

Maybe it also worked cose i just upgraded to 8.1.1 😉 Either way thanks a lot Sascha!!

Have a nice weekend soon 🙂

It’s worth noting that in Resolve 9 they changed the name of the relinking feature. Worse, the documentation guys got a different memo than the programmers. The manual refers to it as “Relink Media” (in page 121), while the actual command name in the context menu is “Change Source Folder”.

Might be of use to someone (like me) who’s been learning Resolve and got lost between what you expected something to be called, what it was called in v8, what it’s called now, and what the manual says it’s called.

Trying to relink media that was living on one drive but is now on another. Problem is that each clip is in its own subfolder (came that way from the onset DIT). If I select all the clips and change the source drive, it doesn’t work, only changing the path of each individual clip works. Is Resolve not intelligent enough to do its own search/relink operation based on a selected drive??

    Please advise.
