  • Relinking files after moving them to Drobo.

    Hi
I have a workspace on my Avid Unity called “Project Backup.” It’s where I’ve been consolidating projects for the past few years.
To free up space, I moved that entire file over to my Drobo. All the media are now in the right architecture (Avid Mediafiles/MXF/1). I went in and delted teh msm.db and msm.pmr files. Avid rescanned the whole thing. I also went to the media tool, chose all drives/all projects and scanned that way too.
Problem is, SOME of my old projects are completely relinked, and some are completely NOT relinked. When I check in the bin, I can see that Avid is still pointing back to the Unity, which I’m not even signed into right now.
    “Relink” does nothing.
How can I get every project to see that the media is now on the Drobo, and no longer have it point back to the Unity?
    Thanks much.

In your MXF>1 folder. Are there more than 5000 files? Avid MC will have issues cataloging more than 5000 files. The LATEST update, 5.0.3, appears to have solved that. But it is still an issue with earlier versions. Solution? Make a 2 and 3 folder in the MXF folder, and move media in to those.

Thanks for that suggestion. There are 2,000 in MXF/1
I also have 4 other folders UNDER the MXF folder, each one ending in 1. Those folders were generated by Avid, so I assume they’re legit.
    Here’s the structure:
    MXF
    1
    Avid.1
    CL1310 7.1
    CL1310 11.1
you get the picture…. I’m on a Unity so that’s why the funky names, etc.
Since I posted, I’ve reattached to the Unity to get back to my original footage, and I”m consolidating again to the Drobo.
Still….there must be a way to get all that footage relinked.
Oh, I’m on MC 4.05 running on Vista.

Try this (may not work, but it worked for me in the past)

Open the project that will not re-link. Create a bin and batch capture a small video clip to the drive your media is on. If your lucky, Avid will suddenly discover the rest of the media exists.

Like I said…it might not work, but its not too painful to give it a shot. Its worked for me before.

When you say “relink” have you tried the options like pointing to a specific drive, media resolution or project?

    Hi John and Steve,
I have indeed tried both of those suggestions and neither one worked. I’ve spent my day re-consolidating 🙁
    Any other ideas?
    Mark.

Well, at least you still have your media on Unity to try again. Maybe move all of your Drobo MXF files into a single folder and get Avid to try and relink from there?

It’s worth a try. Thanks for your help everyone.
