Relinking clips from a sequence imported from another project.
Kind of related to my previous post about issues with Premiere crashing when clips are imported multiple times from the Media Browser…
I imported and organized a large amount of footage shot on the 5DMKII and GoPro cameras. All the GoPro footage that I imported and sorted were the decompressed AVI files from GoPro’s Cineform Studio software. I imported everything using Premiere’s various import methods and sorted the clips into bins in the Project Window. From there I created a sequence and did a quick edit and then saved the project.
My friend then created a new sequence in the same project file on the same computer, but instead of using the clips I imported and sorted into bins, he used the Media Browser to open the same clips and bring them into his new sequence. Every clip now shows up multiple times in at root level of the project window as well as in the original bins. And now the Premiere crashes frequently.
So to try and resolve the issue, here is what I have done so far.
1. I created a backup of my original project file with just the bins I created with the sorted clips and my first short sequence and named it “Project_ORIG”.
2. Opened “Project_ORIG” on another computer connected to the same drive with all my assets and everything links and plays back with no problem.
3. Back on the first computer, I saved the current version of the project that is having issues as “Project”.
4. Opened “Project” on the second computer, relinked clips and tried playing back, Premiere crashes just as it did on the first computer.
5. Closed Preimere and reopened “Project_ORIG”.
6. Imported “Project” and selected only the sequence that my friend created. Premiere created a new bin with just the sequence and the assets from that timeline, which are duplicates of the same files that are also in bins from when I originally imported everything.
So now the imported sequence has Clip A, B, C, etc. in it. But now if I delete Clip A from the bin of the imported sequence, it deletes Clip A from the timeline of the imported sequence. Clip A in the imported sequence and the original Clip A both point to the same exact Clip A file on the hard drive. Is there anyway to link the Clip A in the imported sequence to the Clip A in my original bin?
