Relink media –> Audio Interpretation Lost?
I have a workaround, but I think there must be a better way:
– QT files, Stereo L/R audio, interpreted as DUAL MONO in Premiere CS6.
– During the edit process, some of the source media has to go offline, so we SKIP it when opening the project.
– Later, when the media is available again, select the media folder in Premiere, choose Link Media…
– The re-linked files are there, but the audio interpretation is back to STEREO L/R!I don’t understand why this is the default behavior — if it is possible to maintain the interpretation when re-linking, why wouldn’t it?
The relatively painless workaround is to export the entire project file as a FCP XML, make a new PPRO project, import the XML into PPRO, locate the source files during the XML import process, and – ta da! – the Dual Mono interpretation is preserved.
Can anyone comment on what’s going on here? Perhaps we should have clicked OFFLINE instead of SKIP when opening the project; we haven’t tested it. And I know I could just re-interpret everything in the project window, but this would be impractical at best whenever there are multiple interpretations with various sources. I only want to set all my interpretations once!
