  • Relink imported EDL/AAF to AMA Media…

Posted by Charlie Austin on November 6, 2014 at 7:31 pm

I feel like I’ve done this, but it doesn’t come up often so I uh… forgot how. Here’s my dilemma…

I’ve imported an AAF (or EDL) to a bin. So far so good, sequence looks good, clips appear, but of course, it’s all offline. All the source media is on a plain old NAS drive shared over ethernet. I can import the source media from the shared drive and work with it just fine using AMA linking. But I can’t for the life of me get the relink dialog to see the AMA volume, and even if I point it to the exact folder containing the media it won’t relink it. Clearly operator error, but the “how to” info online isn’t very helpful. Anyone got a step by step? I’m running MC 8

    Thanks!

    1. Open the bins containing the AMA master clips.
    2. In each of these bins, select all of the clips.
    3. Go back to the bin that has your sequence.
    4. Right click on the sequence and select “relink.”
    5. In the relink dialog, select the item in the top section that says “relink to selected items in all open bins,” or something like that.
    6. On the source side of the relink selection, choose time code and source file name. Also check “ignore extension.”
    7. Relink.

Thanks Mike… just to throw a wrinkle in here… Say I’ve imported the AAF to an empty bin with no AMA masters in another bin. But… all the source media is on the shared Drive.

Should I first drag all the AMA masters into another bin so MC sees them and then follow your steps? Sorry if this is relink 101, it’s been a while….

It doesn’t matter what bin(s) the AMA clips are in. What is important is that the bin(s) be open with all of the clips selected in order for the relink to work in the way I’ve described.
