    Hi ALL

I have imported to DVPAL 25p from red footage, the files are on an external drive. How do I move these files from the external drive so that another AVID will find them again.

I have tried moving the files manually (copy/paste) importing the BIN and relink, but you can only do one at a time…. we are talking about 500 clips.

I do not want to work from the external hard drive…

I am not an editor but am just supervising that the workflow on the from the RED can be edited. I am not an AVID tech 🙂

If I understand your post, you’ve got footage thats already linked to a sequence, on an external, and you need to get that footage onto a media drive?

If you copy the files to your media drive, delete the media databases (.msm and .mdb, I believe), then disconnect the external, Avid will rebuild the database for you media drive and you’re golden.

Sorry should have made myself clearer. I have transcoded on one machine and saved the Media Files on an external drive. I will be editing on another machine. If I save the BIN on the external drive and then import it into my other machine… how do I then move the media from the external drive to the other machines (much faster internal drives)?

I have tried moving them (copy & paste) but when I try to relink it does not alow me. Is there some special way to move AVID mediafiles in AVID itself?

With your media in your new edit machine, have you tried hilighting you sequence and selecting ‘relink’? I don’t use relink much (in fact I’ve never needed to use it). Hopefully someone else can jump in here and share some knowledge…

the solution I figured out in the end… you copy over files… delete the db file in AVID media bin then then it looks itself and creates a new database. Rather cool really…
