Hi Folks – Fellow Vegas user here with a question…

Are there any reliable websites out there that you all download your codecs from when you need a new one? Perhaps some kind of site that aggregates all the download locations? At the momement, I am looking for the dvhp codec and I am always worried I am downloading a trojan.

You have good reason to worry because sites that host codec packs often host trojans.

You should get your codec from the manufacturer. It’s as simple as that. Panasonic codecs come from Panasonic’s site, Avid codecs come from Avid’s site, Apple codecs come from… well… you get the idea. DivX comes from the DivX site etc. Always get your codec from the company who created it and only install the codecs that you need.

Thanks for the info John, as always. Do you have any experience with the dvhp codec? I’m not sure who manufactures it.

I believe that codec is Panasonic DVCPRO HD. If you need to user this footage in Vegas I think you need the Raylight Decoder. Maybe someone else who uses Panasonic cameras can comment. (I only use Sony cameras)
