Yes, there were issues in restoring the firmware, but they had mostly to do with getting the computer infrastructure working. In the end I managed with BootCamp on a Mac, running Windows XP. The 1.20 installer didn’t work, though, but I skipped that and managed to get to 1.30 without further problems, and everything seems to be working now. And just in time, since I have some filming to do tomorrow night.
Seeing that “dead” camera wake up again with your 1.05 – now I know how Frankenstein felt… 😉

Hi Tom.

I’m glad it all worked out for you.
Now the files are on Dropbox it’s a quick and simple process to share them out.

I’ve had a look at the 1.20 file and two folders (with some dll files in) had disappeared. Dropbox has done that before with another folder ….. I’m not sure why.
1.20 was the first firmware which used a new type of installer. So it’s unfortunate it disappeared from this one and not a later one (which then wouldn’t have mattered as it would have been already installed).

It may not be a big thing for you, but rest assured that for someone who has just wrecked his camera, finding your helping hand really means a lot! I will send you a warm thought every time I get that camera out!

Does anyone know what that 1.20 update actually did, and how critical it is not having it installed? I filmed some three hours in a concert on Saturday, and didn’t notice anything unexpected…

Hola Julian, he intentado actualizar de 1.05 -> 1.30 con la herramienta del sitio web de Sony. Sus instrucciones pdf dicen que nada y por encima de 1.00 se puede actualizar utilizando esta herramienta. Larga historia corta, la cámara me da el mismo mensaje de error E-17003 como tantas otras personas en este hilo. Me gustaría probar rebaja a 1,05 luego ir gradualmente con las herramientas que usted ha estado dando. ¿Sería posible que me envies una invitación dropbox? Hola Julian, al igual que otros tambien tengo la EX1 dañada deseo hacer un downgrade a la version 1.05 y gradualmente subir hasta la 1.26 enviame una invitacion de dropbox para arreglar mi camara.
