May 27, 2005 at 4:15 amTwo thumbs down on La Cie from me. We’ve bought probably ten of the smaller drives and four of the terrabyte drives over the past year.Failure rate has been around 40%. That’s high!
Now that we’re on X-san with a ton of x-raid storage, our La Cie days are behind us. As for the Promax drives, we’ve still got of few of their older models gaffer taped together that have literally been around the world and still work.

“How about my 5.6TB Xserveraid?

May 27, 2005 at 3:22 pmWe’ve used dozens of La Cie drives, the d2 units as well as the “porche” bricks, and have had about a 10% failure rate. Unacceptable.
The La Cie fellow I spoke with at NAB said “that seems a little high” (NO KIDDING, PAL!!) and said that about 4% failure was to be expected.
You get what you pay for. 50,000 hours MTBF ain’t gonna happen for $150.00.
