  • Reliable Capture from Camera via Firewire?

The AVID tech of an acquaintance said not to expect consistent succesful DV capture via firewire from a camera. That only from a Deck would it be reliable.

Any confirmation or refutation of that?

Don’t know if it’s a golden rule, but DV itself is not that reliable, and when combined with camera transports that aren’t built to deck transport specs can lead to other inaccuracies.

Anytime yu connect or disconnect firewire, ya get hickups galore. Avid techs are tired of telling people to delete their decks and remount them so they say things like capturing from a deck is more reliable. By that, they are. You’ll not get tc differences from one to the other.. just more headaches.
