  • Reflections with 3D Invigorator?

Is there a way to incorporate reflections within 3D Invigorator? As an example, if I create two primitive objects, say a sphere and then a cube, and I sit the sphere on top of the cube and then add various materials/lighting etc. Is it possible to make the sphere reflect the cube or vice-versa?

I suspect that the only way to do this might be to create the models/reflections in a separate 3D program and import them into After Effects via 3D Invigorator.

    Hi Mike,

We currently do not have the capability to reflect one object off of the surface of another object in Invigorator. To fake this appearance, you can create a reflectivity map that contains the other object. Then, as you move the camera around the object, it will seem like the surface is actually reflecting the other object. The other way to create a reflection with the 3D objects you create is to use the plug-in 3D Reflector. You can apply 3D Reflector to a 3D Layer in After Effects and it will reflect other 3D Layers in After Effects including objects from 3D Reflector. The limitation is that you can only apply it to a 3D Layer in After Effects. This means you won’t be able to create a reflective sphere, but you could create a cube by piecing 6 layers together.

    Hope this helps.

    Best,
    Edward
