  • Reference monitor in PPro CC not working with an LCD TV

    Posted by Robert Withers on November 15, 2013 at 4:35 am

    I’m connecting from an MBP (Mountain Lion) through a thunderbolt-to-HDMI adapter to an LCD TV. This works for many uses in different programs and the OS itself as a second monitor, and I can move the Reference Monitor panel in PPro CC to this monitor. “Gang to Program Monitor” is selected. But the Reference Monitor doesn’t show the timeline/program image moving in playback with the timeline and program panel. It does jump to the matching still frame when I stop playback.

    How can I use the Reference Monitor as a functioning second monitor during playback?
    Or is there another way to view the program playback on the second monitor? I can’t move the program panel to the second monitor.

    BTW, the same hookup works fine in FCP 7 as an additional playback monitor. And for playing back Quicktime files on the TV.

    Preferences -> Playback -> choose your monitor

    Thanks to some suggestions and support, here’s what I did to get this to work in PPro:
    In
    Preferences -> Playback ->
    I selected and checked all of the three options that appeared available:
    Adobe DV
    Adobe Monitor 1280×800
    Adobe Monitor 1280×720

    Now I can see the timeline playing back on the MBP screen and the LCD TV screen, full frame, with letterbox or pillars depending on the input. I can’t “escape” or make smaller the TV screen but it’s serving its function as a big monitor in realtime

    No idea which kind of PPro window it’s showing or what the resolution is, but it works.

    Many thanks,
    Robert
