Why do my Ref movies lighten when showing a fade or showing titles – the entire frame lightens and even shrinks slightly?

This is the usual problems with mixed codecs in by reference files. You use one codec for acquire (e.g. ProRes or DV), and another one for rendering (e.g. Media 100), and you get these jumps in the by ref or self contained exports. This is a underlying QuickTime codec issue, there is nothing Media 100 can do about that. If you see this problem you should export to QuickTime into a codec and colorspace of your choice.

You’ll see this in other NLE’s as well.

Tim, check your settings and confirm with us if this is the case.

So, once I changed the rendering codec to match the capture codec I re-rendered transitions and title. That did seem to do the trick. This is something I have run into on occasion and never realized the cause. Thanks to all here for your suggestions.
