***Edited to answer my own question: I should have trusted my gut. The darkened spots under two of the text clips reflected that I had clicked on the “keyframe” icon that is on the bottom of each clip, which is why the lower level of the track was so expanded. Still not sure why showing keyframes needs to take up such a giant amount of space, but maybe there is some way to modify that.***

    Hi folks,

I’m new to Resolve, mostly from an FCP and Premiere background.

It’s always the little things that drive us crazy with new software, right?

So, in my timeline I have text overlays on the track (V2) above my main video clips (V1)

Somehow the height of that V2 track is ridiculously tall, and I can’t shrink it.

The tallest part isn’t even the layer containing the text boxes (which could be helpful if you could read them in the timeline) but the darker part below the text boxes, which as far as I can tell contains zero information.

I can’t get the arrows on the left to shrink it. There must be a way.

Also, does anyone know why below two of the text clips, to the left of the playhead in the pic, the space below the text box is extra darkened? It’s as if they are selected or something, but they aren’t. I wonder if this is related to the tall height.

It’s more than just showing keyframes. It is the keyframe editor so you need the scale to be able to manipulate keyframe values. In some ways it is not tall enough as I find it a bit twitchy when setting values and ease in out curves

Right, thanks for that! Yeah, I can understand why you’d want it expanded for manipulating keyframes. I don’t think I had done any of that in that track, so must have been an accidental selection. I do find it a bit odd you can’t manipulate that height (either bigger or smaller) to suit your needs!

There are some options. In your screen shot there is an Icon at the top left. Click that Icon at the top left. That brings up several options to change the timeline view, and audio an video timeline heights. Another tip: a very good friend in Resolve can be the Right Click. Right Clicking on a timeline video, or Title, will bring up a very useful menu. When you get stumped trying to do something, try a Right Click.

Thanks! I’ve definitely played with that icon and the timeline view options, but none of them effect the height of that particular lower “keyframe editor” layer. Not that big a deal now that I know the issue but I will try more right clicks for sure!

To me it is not a problem because I make the key frame adjustment, then click the icon again and it shrinks back to normal size. Bring it up when you need it, then make it go away until you need it again.
