We have footage shot on standard SD cameras, when played back on our widescreen plasma tv, there is snow/pixellation in all of the mid-lit areas of the picture, even when played in letterbox mode. Is there a compressor setting or fcp effect that can help at least hide this annoyance a little bit? Or is this something that HD tvs will do to SD footage regardless of compression? Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

All footage has grain and noise its just that normally with 3 CCD chips, good resolution, and good lighting you don’t notice it. I think you can see noise because you scaled up the noise. I’ve also seen this happen on SD broadcasts that are shown on HD televsions. One big thing that might help is make sure your using a HD output(example: HDMI), any SD output can distort the image(Example: coaxial cable with f connectors).
