I have interviews with a generator or air duct system whatever that is emitting background noise. I want to reduce or if possible, eliminate that noise. Any suggestions like tools in FCP that will eliminate the noise, and no, I have never used Soundtrack Pro

Yes, you can try the plug-in filter for parametric equalization (EQ) but you’re going to have to noodle around with settings to get a result. You might also try a downwards expansion filter, a notch filter, or a combination.

You’ll have to wiki or google some info on details of how to work a parametric, but it boils down to: use the sliders to find the frequency of the bad noise and at first, try to BOOST the bad noise, as a way of really pinning it down. When you have the narrowest range of just that noise selected, invert the variables to inhibit just that frequency, and bam, your rumble is gone, leaving the other frequencies of the audio more or less unaffected.
