Reduce .mov file size
I built a video project in final cut express, exported it to an .mov file (quicktime) and its size is 1.71GB.
Do I need to purchase a compressor to bring the file size to below 100 mb for posting on youtube, vimeo, etc…?

Compressor comes with FCP; and theres a preset for youtube (you can upload files larger than 100mbs)

The file size is only a meaningful number in relationship to the length of the video. Is it an hour? 5 minutes? 1.7 gigs really isn’t that big.
But, export it as qt, h264 codec, with medium or a little better quality. Change the frame size 853×480 if it’s HD or 480×360 if it’s 4:3.

The length of the video is just around 2 minutes. Thanks Bret, I’ll follow your advise
I built a video a couple years ago and just recalled that I used iskysoft video converter.

Sorry to miss the “Express” part – I don’t know if Cow has an express forum.
Meanwhile – @ 2 minutes, if you’re going to manually use h.264, I suggest you use the data rate of approx. 6000 for your video – this will yield a file, a little under 100 megabytes

Hi bret,
I made a movie with .mov files. the file sizes added up to 12 gb. now after I made the movie with final cut pro and exported the movie, the movie size ended up to be 94 GB!!!!!!!!!!! what does this mean?
What can I do reduce the size of my movie? any idea?
