Happens maybe every now and again. Leaving a sequence to render over night and it will get stuck on a random frame indefinitely rendering. Woke up to a see that 40 frames had rendered at pretty steady 6mins each then the time for 41 was 7 hrs and counting.

    What is causing this? Thanks

    Hi Josh,

The rendering speed of each frame is related to the complexity of the elements on the screen during that frame. This means that even if you are rendering a huge animation file, but in the first frames it only contains for example one element with a simple composition and simple materials, it will render very quickly, and then the rendering time will start to increase as more elements appear in the frame. If this is the case for you, then what happened is normal. I hope this is useful to you.

I am aware that thats how rendering works. This is not the case here. There are no new elements on introduced on the frame that the render crashes/hangs. By itself the frame would render the same as any before it.

It happened again last night, rendering each frame as normal, then about 6hrs in. It is just stuck on one frame. It doesnt seem like it is a crash as the total render time is still clicking over. This is very annoying and blocking workflow. Can anyone suggest anything? I dont think there is even any error log.

I don’t know if you’ve tried this or not, but if you stop the rendering at a certain frame and then after launching again you find that the rendering time has returned to normal, then there must be another problem besides what I mentioned. If you’re using GI, so as some users have advised, you could set the settings as follows :

    Render Settings/Global Illumination/Cache Files – Prepass only:off – Skip Prepass:off – Auto Load:on – Auto Save:on – Full Animation Mode:on

If this isn’t the case for you, so you could copy the geometry into a new file and use “Current state to object” so that you won’t have any effectors. such as Cloner, Sweep … etc, then try again. I hope one of the two things will work for you.
