RedRocket Slow Playback
Hi,
Just installed a Red Rocket card on our DaVinci machine. Playing back a 4K R3D file at Full Res Premium would only do about 16fps with no nodes applied. Does that sound right?
Here is my setup:
Mid 2012 MacPro
2 x 2.66 GHz 6-Core
10.8.3slot-1 – GTX285 (UI+GPU)
slot-2 – Red Rocket
slot-3 – LSI7404EP Fibre Channel

4K Full Res Premium is not going to run smoothly on a single GPU system.
If you can’t spring for the second (or more, preferably) CUDA GPU, try Quarter-Res.

I just installed a Red Rocket in a similar system (but with a GTX 580 card as GUI/GPU). i get 15-20fps with no nodes on 5k footage in a 1080 timeline.
Changing the playback quality doesn’t make much of a difference like it would if you have no Rocket card. The card is handling all that, but still leaving Resolve with 4-5k pixels to chunk through. You need more GPU power.

With Half-Res premium you’ll get realtime. Full-Res will require a fully spec’d machine to really crunch that. Or jump to dual rockets. Heres what we get for reference:
12-13fps @ Full Res
Mac Pro 4,1 2.26×2

GTX570 1.2GB
GT120 (GUI)24FPS with 4 Blur and 23FPS with 8 Blur nodes on Half-Res
