redirect RAM

Hi,

I have been having trouble optimizing my settings too. I have 8gb of RAM installed. My System Profiler can them. But, in FCP under memory usage the application slider only has 2560mb which suggests I only have 2.5gb. Is there a particular way to configure your RAM so FCP can it? I am baffled.
