I’m rendering a video project with a fair number of still frames in FCP. I’m using compressor and the default DVD 2-Pass settings. The video portions looks ok but the stills are coming in with significant aliasing problems making them look very fuzzy. The original photos using in FCp are high quality scans from 35mm negatives so the images are pretty good to begin with. It seems like thecompression process is causing the quality problem. I did not edit this project but it doesn’t appear that any sort of deinterlacing filters in FCP.

What I was wondering is there a good setting that I can use that would make both the video and stills look as good as possible?

    Hm…
Try to downscale 35mm images to 720×480(576) dy using Bicubic alghorytm, by Photoshop or any graph software.
    Then use it to author.
