    Hi everybody

I have a probleme with the RED workflow.

    First… this is my machine:
    Mac OSX 10.5.8
Two 2.26GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Nehalem” processors)
    8GB memory (4×2 GB)
two NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 512MB
and 2To in RAID 0 (my book studio edition II) connected in esata to PCI express card Sonnet tempo E4P
    FCP 7.0.1
and I installed RED FINAL CUT STUDIO 3 INSTALLER from RED website.

    Second… I edit a short movie shoted in 4K.

Third… When I use the log and transfert window (I tested in native and all pro res) everything is ok… excepted… I can’t read the rushes fluently. It’s jerky.
And it’s the same when I importe the QT reference movie in 2K or 1K.

    So I don’t know what’s wrong ???

In the RED website, they says “use a suitable graphic card such as NVIDIA 8800, or ATI 4870”
I have two NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 512MB…
Can I Have problems if i don’t use a suitable graphic card ?
Or Have two graphic cards can make conflicts ?

Does my Hard disk is fast enough ?

Or it’s my Mac pro which is not powerfull enough ?

So much questions and I don’t have answers !!!

    Somebody can help me ?

    Thanks a lot

    Jeremy

Ps… sorry for my english. I’m french 🙂

    cordially

Alter your RT settings as suggested in the whitepaper for native playback – something like medium or low quality, with full framerate. Make sure external video is turned off.

If you are not experiencing smooth playback after encoding to prores, I would check your storage connection with a disk speedtest. An internal 3 disk array in your Mac Pro is cheaper and faster.

    Hello Mr Holmes

Thanks a lot for your answer.

I configurated my sequence with an illimited RT, a low playback video quality and a half playback frame rate… and It’s working 🙂

I have an another question for you.

After the edit… The Production want make the colour calibration to Color in 4K.

If I importe the 2k Reference QT movies into FCP, I can reconform in 4K into Color
and if I log and transfert in Native REDCODE… I also can reconform in 4 K.

So which is the different between this both way ? And which is the best ?

    Thanks a lot

    Hello

In fact… I imported the 2k Reference QT movies into FCP… and It’s working (even if it’s lighty jerky still)

but i can’t use the Digital Cinema Desktop Preview (too much jerky)

    So I have question…

If I add 4GB memory… (I have Already 8GB)… Does it approuve something a lot?

    thanks a lot
