Well I’m sure a few of you out there know I had issues with the first
M-2 (35mm adapter) with my EX1 last year and I wasn’t very happy with
the individual who sold it to me at NAB 2008.

But today is a new day, and the people at Red Rock Micro have turned a
new page, and I have found their new Encore 35 mm lens adapter to be
an amazing new product for those who have the Sony EX1/EX3 cameras who
are looking for that cinematic filmic look.

A few weeks ago I was asked to shoot a music video (for Kate Earl,
Melody) and I needed a lens adapter for my EX3, I called up EVS here
in Burbank California and my friend Toby in rentals said he had
something I needed to try, so I allowed him to mount the Red Rock
Micro Encore to my EX3 and within a few minutes I was seeing clear
edge to edge images with multiple Zeiss SLR lenses.

It was a very long day shooting this music vdeo and I found working
with the Encore to be extremely easy to use. We could change lenses
and calibrate the follow focus very quickly. I used the Anton Bauer
battery mount to power the camera and the Nano Flash recorder which
helped counter balance to extra weight out in front on the stock lens.
The Encore comes with an optional rechargeable battery that lasted all
    day on a single charge.

The team at Red Rock Micro has developed a new achromat specifically
for the stock Fujinon lens that delivers superior edge to edge
sharpness from the Encore. At this price point I doubt you’ll find a
    better solution.

One of the principles of Red Rock Micro has been in contact with me
after seeing the Kate Earl music video, and he invited me to work with
the Encore system for a few more weeks, he also is suppling me with
some very nice Zeiss lenses and told me he is turning their customer
service around. Red Rock Micro makes affordable precision cinema
products and they have made a huge investment making the Encore an
amazing new tool for the Sony XD Can EX cameras. More to come……

Very nice looking video! How much of the look was from in-camera settings and how much was grading in post?

Most of what you see was from the actual shoot. What is most pleasing to me is the Encore together with the Zeiss prime lenses recorded on the Nano Flash. Yes they did some color correction to enhance the look but that is always a process of production.

    Good Luck
