Hello. I’m a relative newbie. I’ve searched and read the previous posts but I haven’t found an answer to my issue. Please forgive me if this has been addressed before.

I have a client with a music video shot on Red. The problem I’m having is that the footage has arrived to me on a LaCie rugged drive with the raw R3D files appearing in a folder called ‘Online’, but there are no .rdm subfolders, or .rfc or .profile items as described in the FCP workflow here- https://documentation.apple.com/en/finalcutpro/professionalformatsandworkflows/index.html#chapter=11%26section=3

I believe the files were prepared for use in Premiere before I received them.

So, now I’m a little confused and I’m trying to see my way onto the recommended workflow for FCP. From my FCP it will go to Assimilate Scratch for grading at 4K, I believe.

I’m currently copying the entire contents of ‘Online’ folder to my G-Raid2 1.5TB FW800 external drive, and then I plan to transcode to ProRes422(HQ) via RedAlert and then work with _M.mov or possibly _H.mov on the FCP timeline, although the Scratch grading tech has recommended that I work with the _P.mov files. Which quality would be best to work with?

I’ve downloaded and installed RED FCS2 Installer, RedAlert and Redcode Quicktime codec.

Am I headed in the right direction? I’ve read about corruption issues and to never rename any of the files. Do I need the .rdm subfolders, the .rdc and .profile items because I don’t see them.

Thought I’d update this in case anyone else has the same question.

It doesn’t seem to matter that the .rdm subfolders, .rfc and .profile items are missing. I simply copied all the R3Ds into a new folder on my external drive. From there, I made _p.mov quicktime proxies using REDAlert. After import, drag them to a ProRes sequence and render.

I attempted working in a REDCODE sequence, but this was causing serious scaling on the slo-mo footage, and I was unable to add any basic effects (the entire clip would grey-out after render).

I imagine I wouldn’t have to render as much if I’d transcoded to ProRes, but it’s a bit late for that now and the _p.mov proxies seem to be working fine otherwise.

    Hope that helps someone!
