I am new to FCP, and can not seem to figure out why, when I have DV-25 clips in my project that will play back just fine in the viewer, has to be rendered when put on the timeline.
The material was shot on beta, digitized in Avid Adrenaline 1:1, and exported out as Quicktime movies with the Avid DV25 codec.
The files are all on an external firewire drive and imported into FCP 4.5. I know that the sequence settings have to match the footage, so I have tried several different settings with no luck. Doing apple-I on the clips tell me that they are 720×486, and I have tried to set my FCP sequence to that as well, but still no.
What am I doing wrong here? Thanks.

    Easy set up> DV NTSC

Make a new sequence and things should be fine.

    Thanks, David.
I am pretty sure I tried that already, but I’ll try it again and get back to you. If that doesn’t work, however, what other issues might be at work here?

You need to be sure that your sequence settings and footage setting are perfectly matched. IF the:

    FRAMERAE
    SIZE
    COMPRESSION

differ in any way then you will have the red bar all day .
