Red Epic footage in Premiere CS5.5.1
Posted by Anthony Bernard on November 1, 2011 at 7:40 pmI am having a problem importing Red Epic footage into Premiere Pro CS5.5.1. I keep getting the unsupported format/damaged file error. I checked them in RedCineX and they play fine. I have done a little research and it looks like up until 5.5.1 you needed a separate plugin from Adobe to import Epic footage. Since I have the right version I figured things would be fine, but they are not. I am going to try and install the plug in anyways and see what happens, but has anyone else had this problem?

November 1, 2011 at 8:39 pmI have installed the importer. I can now import the footage. I have connected the r3d files with the editors edl (as I am just doing color correction) and all the connected files go from red to yellow in the time line. All the transitions are red, but when I try to render anything I get “Error compiling movie. Unknown error.” It doesnt shut down or freeze…It just keeps giving me that error every time I try and render anything.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

November 1, 2011 at 10:31 pmYes I understand the various render bars. My problem is that when I try to render anything at all (whether I do shift+enter or just enter). When I try to export I get a message saying “Offline material is present in this export and will be encoded using the offline media graphic”. I export and it exports fine though…think its related to my render error?

November 1, 2011 at 10:44 pmSo when you want to render your timeline, you get an error message and it wont render the timeline.
And when you export, you get another error message, but it exports the sequence just fine.
Am I understanding your situation correctly?

November 1, 2011 at 10:51 pmWell, I would suggest a call to Adobe Tech Support. Its free and eventually you should get the answer you want. Ask for Vinay. I have found him to be very knowledgeable and cool to troubleshoot with.

November 3, 2011 at 2:21 amOk. So now I have the ability to render the r3d files (I think the recent premiere update had some thing to do with it), but after I rendered my aspect ratio changed and I have black bars top and bottom now…anyone have any thoughts?

November 3, 2011 at 12:34 pmWhat are the specs for the media vs the spec for the sequence?
I wonder if there is a framesize mismatch?
Are you using an Adobe RED preset sequence?
