The Red 4.3 Premiere plugin seems to work fine with .mp4 files, but the files don’t show up when trying to import them directly into the Red 4.3 engine. I’ve tried renaming them with a .mov or .mpg extension but no go.

    Is there a workaround? I have 1733 .mp4 files so re-encoding isn’t an option. I’m in WinXP.

    Thanks.

They don’t show up? Does it act as if they import?

Could you send me one of the file I’ll give it a test. mattm@borisfx.com

Matt, I sent you an MP4 sample. Did you get it?

    Yes I did, sorry.

I am able to import and cut the video into a project.

Make sure on the import screen you change files of type to “all files”.

Matt, with “all files” checked I can see and import my mp4 files … but they won’t play. I sent you another file to see if they play for you.

    Thanks.

When you say it doesn’t play what do you mean? Is it just a still frame?

I have not received any files from you.

I’m not sure if it’s imported as a still, but it’s definitely motion-free. I’ve sent another sample.

    Thanks.

Matt, did you find out if there’s any chance of getting Red support for H.264-encoded mp4 files?

    Mark, sorry for the delay.

It’s a pretty reasonable request, I’m just not sure right now what an ETA would be or if it would be included on Red 4.

I’ll keep you posted as soon as I hear something.

Unfortunately for the time being you will have to convert MP4’s to another file type.
