With RED Decoding I understand that most of the heavy lifting is done by the GPU. Please correct me if I am wrong..

I am currently using Mac3.1 Quad-Core with 16GB of Ram with 120/285 cards. Will I get any performance improvement with updating graphics cards (680 4G)?

Will version 10 have any GPU decode improvements?

    Thanks,

    Ronen

    You are wrong. 😉

Most of the debayering/decompression is done by the CPU. In other raw formats the GPU is able to help. But RED encrypts their r3d files which prevents this.

According to Jarrod from Red ( he might know a thing or two about the subject), R3D GPU debayer and decompression is coming. How soon, nobody knows, other than Red…

    where is this info from?
They wouldn’t sell any Red Rockets if this would be true

You need to spend a little time on RedUser forum.
And if you do, then do a little search for a GPU assisted debayer in the Dragon thread…

I spend a lot of time there, but AFAIK GPU will only support effects in Redcine like blur, sharpen, grain, etc…
    RED won’t rutin their 4750$ card…

Well, then, I guess, what does Jarred knows about the GPU implementation for the debayer and decompression, right? I’m sure you know better…

Jake I wasn’t offensive at all, as you are with these posts. But it makes no sense to:
    – file a patent so no one can use R3DRAW decoding
    – sell a card for decoding at 6750$
    – and then enable GPU debayer

If you read through the reducer thread Jarred haven’t mentioned any exact thing about GPU debayer at all. He said they will have “something” for the GPU guys…
I’m not up to childish conversions, so I’m done here:)

Sorry to bring up this old thread. Are there any news on the subject?

The point to support GPU rendering from RED would be the ability to sell license for it. Many times higher profit margins than selling (and developing) hardware!
